Amazing Homemade Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Dry Ingredients:

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour

    • 1 cup granulated sugar

    • 1/3 cup cacao powder (not cocoa)

    • 1 tsp baking soda

    • 1/4 tsp salt

  • Wet Ingredients:

    • 1/3 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)

    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

    • 1 tsp white vinegar

    • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)

    • 1/2 cup hot water or hot coffee (enhances chocolate flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour your 9 x 6 pan or line it with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cacao powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the vegetable oil, vanilla extract, vinegar, and milk.

  4. Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Add the hot water (or coffee) and stir until smooth.

  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Cool: Let the cake cool completely in the pan before frosting.


Chocolate Frosting Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp cacao powder

  • 2-3 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency) (I use 1/2 milk 1/2 coffee)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Cream Butter: In a bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy.

  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Sift the powdered sugar and cacao powder into the bowl and mix until combined.

  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the vanilla extract, milk and/or coffee

    , one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.

  4. Frost: Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
